a degree in Education with at least Second Class (Honours) from the University of Malta or a degree from another university recognised as equivalent fort the purpose together with a minimum of one year's teaching experience or
any other degree with at least Second Class (Honours) together with a recognised teaching or education qualification and a minimum of one year's teaching experience or
a degree in Education or a Teacher's Certificate together with at least five years' teaching experience and other suitable qualifications obtained following the degree or after the Teacher's Certificate or
any first cycle degree with either a recognised teaching qualification or a Diploma in Education together with five years' experience in an education setting.

Applicants admitted under (c) or (d) shall be required to attend an interview during which they shall be requested to provide evidence of prior experiential learning and to demonstrate that they are capable of completing the Course and may be required to complete a preparatory programme.

The new Master of Education (M.Ed.) Degree in Work and Lifelong Learning by research is a 90 ECTS course designed for post-graduate training which aims to contribute to research and organisational capacity building in the domain of work-related learning. The primary research areas will include exploration of the individual and social factors that facilitate and hinder wider participation in local lifelong learning. The course also explores causes and consequences of early school leaving and factors that facilitate re-entry to formal education. This course also focuses on facilitation of deep approaches to learning and the development of skills required for lifelong learning.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Education - M.Ed. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

Expand theoretical understanding of lifelong learning and develop skills required for innovative approaches to research and to problem-solving in the domain of work-related learning;
Better understand the local context and global development in the field of lifelong learning;
Identify, critically analyse, and evaluate research studies related to work and lifelong learning;
Identify relevant practical and research problems and to design well conceptualised and methodologically robust research studies;
Develop research skills and be able to apply a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods and their creative integration through complex mixed method studies;
Design academic and applied research studies based on appropriate theoretical and methodological approaches in accordance with the highest research ethics principles.

Expand presentation and writing skills required for effective dissemination of research results to different audiences.

Enhance students' 'soft skills' including flexibility, long-term planning, and problem-solving skills as well as their networking, collaboration and communication skills.

The new Master of Education (M.Ed.)
